We finally got word from my doctor that I could return to work. After being out for over 8 months, I am pshyched to say the least.
The plan is for me to gradually build up to 40 hours a week from home over the next couple of months.. I am still waiting on final approval, but it looks like I will start working 2 hours a day, 5 days a week from home on April 18th. I will do that for 2 weeks and then go to 4 hours a day. 2 weeks and then 6 hours a day. 2 weeks and then 8 hours a day from home. I am very fortunate to work for a company that has held my position for this long. Thanks PWD!
As far as training goes, I am slowly making progress. It is frustrating as hell to only be able to run 1.6 miles in 30 minutes. I used to do close to 5 miles in 30 minutes. My progress this week was 1.5 miles in 30 minutes to 1.6 miles in 30 minutes. .10 mile improvement!!! I have added a little widget in the right hand column of the blog where you can track my training if you are really bored. Right now, the numbers are not to great. They will improve. I will run a 5K this year and I will finish in under 30 minutes. (maybe if I type it, it will happen)

Great news Chad!...and 5 miles in 30 min? wow, I'll try not to think about that as I'm struggling with my 10 min miles. :)
Closer to 4 miles in 30 minutes than 5 miles.

I just typed a long comment only to have my internet connection go down and I lost the whole damn thing. Anyhow I was diagnosed Feb 3rd, 2011. I'm 36, very active, and so far handling things well. I can only hope to do as well as you've done. I'll be going into Dana Farber for a stem cell transplant in 4 weeks provided there are no setbacks. Your story is really inspiring. i have a wife, 2 little boys and a wonderful network of family and friends. I have no intention of leaving that behind too soon. I'm wondering if you have any advice for handling the rough times, like big pain, insomnia, whatever. I've tried meditation but so far I suck.

Doug, sorry to hear about your diagnosis. What type of aml do you have? Dana farber is top notch. During radiation, you can bring music. They have speakers to plug an iPod into.
Bring plenty of comphy clothes. Much better than the gowns. Build up as much weight and muscle as you can over the next 4 weeks. You will need your strength.
Make sure you do proper mouth care. Make sure to be sedated when they remove your chest ports. It hurts when they remove.

Doug, also you should start a blog. My wife was spending hours each night updating friends n family. The blog allowed us to let everyone know what was going on. It helped me pass the time also. Dana farber has wireless in each room. Bring a laptop.
Very exciting to be returning to work. I hope you meet that 5K goal. Awesome job as you continue to improve and recover!
